TRDC:Smile While I Wait

Write On Edge: Red-Writing-Hood

Kimmy leaned against the leather headrest and closed her eyes to let the sun warm her face. The small red convertible hugged the coastline as they sped up the winding curves of the Amalfi Coast.

She talked over the roar of the engine and the hypnotic voice of Andrea Bocelli, “I have never seen anything so beautiful.”

Marco brought her hand up kissing her palm. “I have.”

Kimmy giggled and glanced at her husband, his dark hair longer here in Italy, the wind blowing it back and black wayfarers covering his eyes. She reached over to run her fingers through the curls, “You look like a movie star.”

“So do you, Mrs Rossi.” Taking in her sexy chiffon dress that bloused in the breeze as his finger hooked one spaghetti strap and moved it off her shoulder.

She blushed and sighed, “I wish we could just stay like this forever.”

“I wish we could Bella, but you’re going to have to stay here without me for awhile.”

She pouted, “ But I want to come with you. “

“Sorry babe, I need to go alone, but once you catch up I’ll be waiting.”

He slowed the car, stopping at the edge of a cliff; Kimmy peered down the rocks to the choppy but alluring water.

She faced her husband and saw the blood at his temple.

“Oh Marco no! ” Tears stinging as her fingers reached for him.

“Kimber it doesn’t hurt. Nothing hurts, except leaving you.”

“Then take me with you.” She begged.

“Soon love.” He raised her face and kissed her. “ In the meantime just promise me you’ll be happy. All I want is to know you’re smiling while I’m waiting for you.”

Kimmy woke, clutching her pillow, lips tingling and wondered if she’d ever be happy again.

*as always, you can catch up with the stories of Kimmy, David & Marco HERE!.***

Writing often involves a metaphorical journey as our characters
move through the story and discover something about themselves.
This week, we’d like you to take us on an actual journey, specifically a road trip?
Think about who is in the car.
Where are they going and why?
What’s on the radio or what are the travelers talking about?
Word Limit is 300.

Did you enjoy this road trip with me??
How about we take another one?
But this time I’d love for you to
BUZZ over and come visit me at my friend
Bruna’s Place: Bees with Honey
where I tell you 10 things about myself.

Bruna is such a fantastic person and friend,
I was TICKLED PINK when she asked me
to BEE FRIENDS with her.

See you over there!!! (Pretty please!!)

The cool part of hanging around a bunch of women at home and on the innerwebz is you recognize insensitive/douchebag male behavior in three words or less.Marco acts like he's in touch with Kimmy's feelings but really, he has no clue how fragile she is and thus hurts her more. I like how you made kImmy the master of the surroundings and marco an accessory. It signifies their emotional states. That's good writing.

  3. Lance, I love when you visit. BUT…..Kimmy is dreaming…and Marco is um….well he's dead. Remember. She wants to be with him…but…um…he's dead. :) I am sor sorry I didn't put a "preview" in her . Poor Marco, he's not a douche. I swear. ;)

Aw, poor Kimmy….she's losing Marco all over again in her dreams.  I wonder where life will take her next?I'm on my way to Bruna's!  She's got a great gal to BEE friends with this week! :>

  6. What a tragic dream. It feels so happy at first, but just ends in sadness. You do a beautiful job capturing the scene.

This is heartbreaking. They seem so easy together and in love and then BAM. Really powerful.

  8. :::sigh::: Poor Kimmy…. When does she get to be happy?

WOW.  I have to catch up with these characters in your other episodes, clearly.  I love that this dream conveys so much about their relationship (at least, before he wasn't around any more).  I like how you captured the odd nature of dreams where everything is peachy fine, until it isn't.

  14. Damn…I was really hoping this was real, not a dream. But I thought you said he might NOT be dead???Okay, beyond all my weepiness over this poor relationship I love the description of the coast. Makes me wanna go

  15. okay, not the exact description but the FEELING you evoked with how beautiful it was with Kimmy's comments

Wow, I love how well you captured the high of having a fantastic dream and that awful low when you realize it's not real. I haven't read any of your other Kimmy and Marco stories, but I'm about to now!

Kir, this is so heartwrenching… As much as I love Kimmy and David together, I could feel the pain, the longing, the instant pang when reality hit… when Kimmy realized it was just a dream.  This post gave me the glimpse I needed to understand why Kimmy loved Marco, in her own little way…

Ackkk! The drama! I love it! Totally need to catch up on Kimmy, she seems like she has some divine demons. Can't wait!

  20. Um, before I comment…hello? LOVE the new design. It looks gorgeous over here.

I loved the way this set up; I thought it was a memory at first and felt happy for her, and then sad as I realized it was just a dream. I do like that she has his blessing to be happy again. Poor Kimmy, though :(

The perfect, golden-momentness of it clues into it being a dream, especially once they begin to speak, but it doesn’t make it any easier for Kimmy… though I sense that she’s got a redemption to oversee when she begins to surface from her grief.
